I was sick a few weeks ago with a stomach bug, and I spent the day in bed watching one of the Discovery networks. I love to watch educational programming because I have an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. This was one of the programs I saw, and it was so amazing and fascinating and touching. I found it on YouTube when looking for videos of Marc Yu to show some of my students what is possible when you practice piano 8 hours a day. I made a playlist of all 5 segments of the program - it's almost an hour long, but worth watching in every way. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

JAZZ-POP FESTIVAL

When: Saturday, November 21, 2009

Time: 10:00 A.M.—4:00 P.M.

Where: Freeman Memorial Branch Library

16616 Diana Lane, Houston

Entry Fee: $ 15.00 per entrant

Registration Due: Saturday, October 10, 2009

General Information:

1. One Memorized Solo in the form of Jazz, Rags, Blues, Gospel, Boogie, Rock and Pop.

2. Entrants will be adjudicated before a qualified Judge.

3. The performance will be scheduled in a Recital format Family and Friends are encouraged to attend.

4. Entrants will receive a critique, certificate and an award according to their score.

5. Harmony Music Studio will provide an accompanist for the vocalists and instrumentalists for a reasonable fee of $10.00.

To sign up for the festival, please complete the form available in the studio lobby and return it along with your registration and accompanist fees no later than Saturday, October 10th.

Village 10:30 Thursday class is FULL. I have opened another section of this class immediately following it at 11:30, and I have a class scheduled at Hope Church on Wednesdays at 9:30 with one child enrolled. I need 3 to begin a class, and prefer 4. If you'd like to sign up, but are concerned about the cost, you can pay half the materials fee now and half in November*, and pay monthly for your tuition, with no contract. If you have any questions, please email me! kindermusik at harmonymusicstudio.com comes to me on my phone, so I usually respond within a matter of just a few hours, if not sooner.

I am also looking for 3-5 year olds for an Imagine That class. The currently scheduled class has one child on the list to start, but she is flexible for scheduling if the current time doesn't work for you. It's tentatively scheduled for Tuesdays at 11:30. I can schedule it another day (Wednesday or Thursday) at another morning to midday time. Please let me know if you're interested in this class.

Scholarships are available for students demonstrating need. Discuss your options with me if the cost of Kindermusik is not in your budget right now. My goal is to reach as many children as possible with this wonderful program, so please don't hesitate to approach me if you want to come but need help.

Back To School Mini-Recital

Demo Days Added - Free Preview Class

Kindermusik International, the world’s most respected name in children’s musical learning, is hosting a world-wide class of free musical learning to children around the globe.

On September 8, 10 and 13, Ms. Tabby from Harmony Music Studio is participating in Demo Days – a campaign in which more than 5,000 licensed Kindermusik educators are invited to conduct free class demonstrations for families around the world. The Demo Days classes will be offered at the studio in Friendswood, although Ms. Tabby travels to Pearland and Webster to offer classes in those communities during the regular semester.

Demo Days will be offered in Friendswood at 3746-A FM 528 Rd (Harmony Music Studio) on Tuesday, September 8th and Thursday, September 10th at 10:30 and 11:30 am on both days, and Sunday, September 13 at 6:00 pm. Parents should reserve their spot by registering online in advance. The Kindermusik fall class schedule will begin September 14th. Classes are open to everybody and registrations are accepted through September 21 in Pearland, and throughout the semester in Webster and Friendswood.

Early Enrollment Discount

Students who are registered for class on or before August 14th for classes in Friendswood or Webster will save an additional 10% off tuition. Pearland registrations are handled by the Pearland Parks and Recreation department, and are not eligible for this discount.

If you wish to enroll in lessons or classes, you have several choices: You can call to schedule an interview with one of our teachers, or you can download, print and mail our registration packet, and someone will contact you to find a good lesson time for you and the appropriate teacher.

You can download the policy and registration form in PDF format by following the link below. To complete your registration and reserve your lesson with the studio, you must return these forms along with your registration fee ($50 annually for private lessons) to the studio. You can mail them or deliver them in person.

This wonderful list has been published all over the internet, and today I found it linked from twitter on the Kindermusik International blog. It's definitely one of those things that bears repeating, especially as I prepare to go do a brief cameo at a summer camp program for special needs kids up in Pasadena. Music moves us all, and I am moved to share it with you through lessons, Kindermusik classes, and being part of the musically involved population in our community.

Why Do We Teach Music?

Not because we expect you to major in music.
Not only because we expect you to play or sing all your life.
Not only so you can relax.
Not just so you can have fun.

But...
so you will be more human.
so you will recognize beauty.
so you will be sensitive.
so you will be closer to an infinite beyond this world.
so you will have something to cling to.
so you will have more compassion,

On behalf of all of us here at Kindermusik International, I want to thank you for applying for a scholarship through the Ruth D. Anderson Kindermusik Children's Fund. Thank you most of all for all you are doing to touch the lives of children -- children who face unbelievable challenges -- each and every day. Without you and educators like you, many of these children (perhaps most) would not have the opportunity to be influenced by the power of music. What you are doing is changing lives - and helping to make our world a much better place.

This year, Kindermusik International and the Ruth D. Anderson Kindermusik Children's Fund awarded almost 700 sets of home materials to children all over the world as a result of the application process. We are honored that we are able to help -- in this small way -- to reach these children and families with the Kindermusik experience.

Payment Options Under New Contract

Since we've released the 2nd semester revised enrollment contract, there have been some questions about what you are supposed to do regarding payment for private lessons.

You have 4 options:

1) Pay Monthly Tuition during the last week of the month for the next upcoming month. Pay a security deposit of $40 per student, which is refundable when we have received your 30-day termination notice and payment for your last month's tuition. $20 late fee assessed for payments made after the 1st.

2) Pay Monthly Tuition using Automatic Credit Card Subscription on the 25th of each month for the next upcoming month. Pay a security deposit of $40 per student, which is refundable when we have received your 30-day termination notice and payment for your last month's tuition. Avoids the $20 late fee, since you won't forget to pay tuition.

3) Pay Monthly Tuition using 6 Post-Dated Checks for the 25th of each month for the next upcoming month (Dated June - November, payment for July - December). No Security Deposit Required. Avoids the $20 late fee, since you won't forget to pay tuition.

4) Pay Semester Tuition in Advance. Make a payment for tuition in full for the entire semester and not only will we waive the security deposit, we'll give you 10% off tuition! You'll never pay a late fee, either. It's the best option for everyone!

Ms. Margo has extended the deadline for new enrollment contracts to be returned to July 10. Please THOROUGHLY READ your enrollment packet and complete and return your forms with your PAYMENT OPTION SELECTED and your tuition.

Dear Students and Parents,

First, we would like to thank you for your continued business. Harmony Music Studio is proud to announce that we have more than tripled in size in the 2 years since moving to our current location. As we flourish, we continue to look for ways to fine-tune the areas that become obstacles in our path as we expand. We are a small business with limitations and we must make changes to protect the studio.

Music lessons are a luxury and opportunity that provide everyone involved the gift that lasts a lifetime. We want to continue to be an asset to our community by being more organized and efficient. We offer the most economical price of all music schools in the Bay Area, but our losses grow larger by the month as we grow, as well. In order for Harmony Music Studio to continue to survive and provide the best instructors in our area, we must reduce these losses by becoming more stringent about our policies. A copy of the renewed contract can be located at the front desk or down loaded from our Web-page at HarmonyMusicStudio.com. Beginning May 31, we are accepting registrations for our 2nd semester, which is from July —December 2009.

Rules and guidelines have a purpose and come about by trial and error. We greatly appreciate our customers who always have abided by the past contract and we take note of your courtesy and effort in honoring our past agreements. However, due to a large number of our customers who are not honoring the contract, some major changes in policy must be accepted by all who would like to be enrolled in our school beginning in July 2009.

Students who withdraw for a month or more must re-register when they return, including registration fees. We cannot hold time slots for students who withdraw for any length of time, as we now have a waiting list of students wishing to enroll.
