We are excited to announce the date of our annual Spring Recital. Please check your calendars and return the registration and entry fees as soon as possible. Recital reservations can not be confirmed until the entry fee and registration form has been submitted.

Our Spring recital is our biggest and most exciting performing event of the year, giving students an opportunity to showcase their hard work over the past semester. There will be an awards presentation immediately following the recital, where students who entered events throughout the year will be recognized for their individual accomplishments. All students will be presented with an award in the ceremony. Please dress your best, as we will take group photos to memorialize the event. Family and friends are welcome to join us as our students take the stage and become stars.

Students who are shy or suffer from stage fright can request for their instructor to perform with them, or simply bring the teacher or a parent on stage with them for moral support. It's normal for students to be nervous, especially about a first performance, but if the student is prepared, they will do fine! Please encourage your students to practice daily to prepare, even if it's just 5 minutes here or there - the consistency of daily practice makes a big difference.

Though we try our best to accommodate the busy schedules of our studio families, it's impossible to pick the perfect recital date and time for everyone. We always hope that all students will be able to participate, but if you are unable to be a part of the recital, please let us know that as well, as it will help assist us in avoiding an oversight to have written confirmation.

Registration forms are available in the lobby at the studio.

We look forward to seeing you at another great Spring Recital!

Ms. Jo-Ann Palana-Stone - Drum Instructor

Ms. Jo-Ann joined the studio in August of 2007.

"I started playing in 1967 and have studied extensively. I began with Mr. Baron at Geen's Drum shop in Providence, Rhode Island, where I studied old-school march and the rudiments of rhythm. Through the years, I have also studied with Steve Amsler (Berklee), Alan Dawson (world-reknown creator of the Berklee Method), Max Roach (UMass at Amherst), Rich Consciline (The Drummer's Collective) and Jazz great Michael Carvin. I have been teaching percussion since 1980, both in privately in New York, and with the Academy of Music in Ft. Piece, Florida. I have been performing professionally and consistently since 1967 with many well-known artists. I've been around the world, playing and touring professionally in Taiwan, Russia, Panama, Barbados, and St. Thomas."

Didjeridoo and drums! - Saturday, July 26, 2008

Here's a neat musical excerpt that I heard through the grapevine. Merri over at Masterworks Studios in Decatur, GA is a fellow Kindermusik educator and Blogger. She shared a really awesome YouTube video of a man named Jono Callow playing a variety of percussion instruments from around the world, as well as a "slide didjeridoo" from Australia. He creates a unique one-man-band with all these instruments, and I know you will enjoy this video!

My husband plays world percussion and didjeridoo, so we're quite familiar with all these strange noises at our house, but I've never seen them combined in quite this way. Thanks for bringing it to my attention, Merri!
